Why Should You Volunteer?

Whether you are a new or seasoned member of the PMI-San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, one of the ways to get to know people in your profession is to become involved.  Volunteering within our Chapter is not only a way to enrich your membership experience, it also expands your professional network, improves your knowledgebase in a low-risk environment, and most of all it’s fun!

 The dynamic growth that our PMI-SFBAC Chapter has experienced since its inception, as well as its ambitious goals for the future, are attributed in large part to our volunteers. The PMI-SFBAC Chapter has been fortunate to have many capable and motivated professionals participate in building and maintaining the Chapter. We invite you to join our active group of volunteers and support the development of the Project Management professionals throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.  Ways You Can Volunteer

As a volunteer with PMI-SFBAC, you have the choice of volunteering

  • as an individual contributor which is comprised of specific assigned tasks by a team leader  or

  • in a leadership position,  through which  program and business management leadership is applied to enhance career opportunities for yourself and others

 Depending on your goals and availability of positions, you can join one of the many teams including:

  • Professional Development: Provide quality training and education programs to enhance members’ professional growth:  Breakfast Roundtables, career development events, special speaker series, certification workshops, and webinars.

  • Volunteer Management:  Manage volunteer recruitment and role assignment; develop and monitor volunteer management policies and manage volunteer recognition program; provide relevant training, education, and mentoring to volunteers to ensure their success and growth. 

  •  Membership Management:  Develop and manage programs to advocate membership benefits to over 2500 members; monitor member satisfaction; implement strategies to maintain current members and increase membership with a sustainable rate.

  •  Event Planning:  Manage events to allow members to regularly meet with other professionals and hear featured speakers discuss current project management related issues

  •  Technology/IT:  Develop and maintain PMI-SFBAC infrastructure. Be a part of the Newsletter team – help solicit, edit and push articles about chapter business and of interest of our owner-members.

  •  PMO: Provide project, program and portfolio support for many internal PMI-SFBAC projects, as well as monitoring and reporting on those projects and our events.

  •  Finance: Manage and monitor financial aspects of operating PMI-SFBAC.

 Choose from a variety of individual or leadership roles.  Examples of  these roles are product managers, project managers within different teams,  event planners, web designer, program manager, to name a few.

Volunteering opportunities with this Chapter are open to all members of PMI and the PMI-San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. There is no requirement for prospective volunteers to hold certifications or to have extensive project management experience.  We look for professionals who can commit to the following guidelines and help us in providing a professional and successful experience for all volunteers and member owners:

  •  Participation should not be for self-serving purposes, promoting personal agendas, or for political or direct commercial gain

  •  Work with integrity and respect for others

  •  Acknowledge, respond to, and complete commitments in a timely manner

  •  Work with minimum supervision while accommodating a geographically disbursed team

  •  Participate actively
