Volunteer Spotlight: Afreen Munshi
From Signals to Systems: Afreen Munshi's Collaborative Leadership in Marketing

Keeping Marketing Moving Chapter-Wide
As a Marketing Lead, Afreen Munshi has played a key role in coordinating and executing marketing efforts that support PMI SFBAC's programs, events, and member communications. She translates incoming marketing requests into actionable work, coordinates across volunteers, and keeps deliverables moving against tight event and registration timelines.
Driving Efficiency and Savings
Beyond day-to-day execution, Afreen played a vital role in saving PMI SFBAC over $1,400/month, assessing existing vendor workflows to identify gaps and developing a process to bring more marketing support in-house. Her impact has been especially visible during a period of change in the Marketing team's volunteer capacity and structure, where her ownership and follow-through helped maintain continuity while the team continues to evolve its processes and operating model.
A Chapter-Wide Impact
Since Marketing supports nearly every PMI SFBAC function, Afreen's contributions extend well beyond her own team. Her work supports Professional Development, Programs, Membership, Partnerships, Sustainability, and other chapter initiatives that rely on Marketing to reach members and drive awareness and participation. By coordinating communications across channels and initiatives, she enables other volunteer teams to successfully deliver their programs, impacting fellow Marketing volunteers, chapter leaders, program owners, event participants, and the broader PMI SFBAC membership alike.
Living the PMI Values
Afreen's contributions reflect a clear embodiment of Collaboration — Together We Can. Marketing requires coordination across multiple volunteers, departments, stakeholders, and deadlines, and Afreen consistently brings those pieces together. Rather than operating within the boundaries of her individual role, she works across teams, provides structure where needed, and helps others succeed. Her willingness to step up during a period of transition is a clear example of strengthening the team through collaboration, shared ownership, and commitment to the chapter's collective success.
Thank You, Afreen
We're grateful for Afreen's dedication, follow-through, and collaborative leadership across the chapter. Her work behind the scenes has kept marketing efforts moving and empowered teams across PMI SFBAC to deliver their best work.
Thank you, Afreen, for your consistency, resourcefulness, and unwavering commitment to our chapter's success.
