Conflict Management for PM: How to transform conflict into opportunities and increase productivity

EVENT DESCRIPTION:
Project success is rooted in fruitful relationships on teams. Conflict is a natural part of any work environment and must be addressed in a positive and effective manner. In this workshop, you will learn the cause of conflict in team projects and if not handle conflict properly can derail a project. How values, attitudes, needs, expectations, perceptions, resources, and personalities play a role in how to manage human conflict in your team. Proper skills in dealing with conflict can assist project managers to handle and effectively resolve conflicts which can lead to successfully achieve the project landmarks.
 Objectives
After completion of this course, you’ll be able to:
  • Understand key human behavior elements and their impact on conflict
  • Prevent and minimize conflict through the establishment of strong relationships
  • Resolve conflict in a positive way
  • Effectively negotiate with project stakeholders
  • Leverage trust to facilitate conflict resolution

  • Describe and understand productive communication techniques.
  • Know how to communicate with others when conflict arises.
  • Identify and explain how to communicate when there are conflicts between others.
  • Identify and understand how to apply effective communication techniques when conflicts arise within a team or group.
  • Know how to employ communication strategies to defuse conflict or prevent conflict.
  • Recognize that the obvious cause of interpersonal conflict is usually not the only cause and that there can be several other causes or factors involved.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Yvette Durazo is the founder of Unitive Consulting. She is a conflict management expert and performance coach. Ms. Durazo partners with organizations, professionals and teams to enhance human capital engagement, skills and productivity. She is a recurrent workshop presenter for the San Diego Project Management Institute. Ms. Durazo is a formed Core Adjunct Professor for National University and the School General Council of the Judiciary in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico in where she taught courses in conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation. Her educational background includes a Master's Degree in Conflict Resolution, Negotiation, and Peacebuilding from California State University Dominguez Hills, a Bachelor of International Business with an emphasis in Latin American Studies from San Diego State University and is an Associate Certified Credential Coach through the International Coach Federation. She is an active member of the San Francisco PMI, Association of Conflict Resolution (ACR), Alameda County Bar Association, and Bar of Association of San Francisco.
