Joint Stewardship Event with Silicon Valley Chapter

Volunteering

Please join PMI’s San Francisco Bay Area Chapter and PMI’s Silicon Valley Chapter in this joint event as we support the San Mateo County Parks in removal of invasive and prolific French Broom from the Loma Mar Redwoods portion of Memorial Park.

French Broom displaces native plant and forage species and makes reforestation difficult. Since it can grow more rapidly than most trees used in forestry, it shades out tree seedlings in areas that are revegetated after harvest. Infestations of broom degrade the quality of habitat for wildlife by displacing native forage species and changing microclimate conditions at soil levels. It burns readily and carries fire to the tree canopy layer, increasing both the frequency and intensity of fires. (Source: California Invasive Plant Council)

This is a free, in person event. Gloves and weed wrenches will be provided. Parking info and waiver will be shared after you have completed registration. Please register any guests separately (Children 15 and under must be accompanied by their parents).

Project Management Learning Objectives: Leadership, Problem Solving, Teamwork/Collaboration

By enhancing our community’s connection to the Earth, the PMI-SFBAC Sustainability Program and PMI-SV Outreach Program will open minds to the possibilities we can bring to our operational practices to limit negative consequences on the planet.

Participants will learn about the issues that contribute to deforestation and have a direct impact on the sustainability of native wildlife and reforestation.

This will be an excellent team and community building event.

PMI is a member of the UN Global Compact and has committed to supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals. You will find the Goals and Targets that each PMI-SFBAC Sustainability event supports at the bottom of the event description.

This course directly supports the following targets of UN Sustainable Development Goal 15 Life on Land:

15.5 Take urgent and significant action to reduce the degradation of natural habitats, halt the loss of biodiversity and, by 2020, protect and prevent the extinction of threatened species

15.8 By 2020, introduce measures to prevent the introduction and significantly reduce the impact of invasive alien species on land and water ecosystems and control or eradicate the priority species

Cancellation and No-Show Policy:
