Event Description

We will first ask "What is sustainability" and then launch into an overview from a global context touching the UN Sustainable Development Goals and how they work. Next, we will look at project Draw Down which has tied climate solutions to an economic framework showing comparative impact. And to round out the first segment, we will look at the circular economy movement supported through the nonprofit, Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

Shifting to a more local focus, we will first examine some aspects of sustainability professionally and talk about how companies are building awareness around CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), how supply chain choices amplify impact and what is a B Corp. Then we will take a short jaunt into the role of local governments and non-profits with an overview of the California Solar mandate for all new homes in 2020 and RE-volv, a nonprofit that puts solar on other nonprofits.

In the final segment, we will discuss the impact of sustainability from personal choices such as where we bank, to how to support clean energy and how we shop. Using a sharing format we will collaborate to identify some easy things and harder things we do to act more sustainable.

Conducted in a conversational, workshop style, our goal is to have a better understanding of the interconnectivity around sustainability, identify what we can do to foster a more sustainable future and to leave with some easy, and perhaps not so easy, actions and commitments.
