Event Description |
Living Arroyos is a partnership of the City of Livermore, City of Pleasanton, Livermore Area Parks and Recreation District (LARPD), and Zone 7 Water Agency. The program is a unique community engagement opportunity that renews and enhances urban stream and riparian (streamside) habitats in the Livermore-Amador Valley and re-establishes the connection between people and the arroyos in their own backyards.
The Robertson Park project was first planted in Winter-Spring 2019. We will be planting a mixture of native riparian trees, shrubs and forbs. This area is a remnant of a unique habitat type that exists elsewhere in the Livermore valley, called a Sycamore Grove alluvial flood plain. This habitat type is dominated by Western Sycamores, Coast Live Oak, and Valley Oak. The historical flooding that occurred before European colonization scoured the substrate, leaving the perfect material for young sycamores to grow in. Since we no longer allow flooding events like that to occur we are not seeing any new sycamore regeneration. This project is a way to revitalize this habitat and to mitigate for streamside impacts that the City of Livermore incurred in the 2018-19 rain year.
In the event of heavy rain, the event will be canceled 48 hours in advance and rescheduled accordingly.
