Scrum Fundamentals Workshop

EVENT DESCRIPTION:

This workshop will provide the knowledge and practice so that you can immediately start working on, in, or with a Scrum team. One will clearly understand the Scrum practices to help lead both your team and your project’s success.

 Objectives
This 1-day workshop will provide you with hands-on experience with Scrum ceremonies, roles, and iterative development
What you will learn
Hands-on practice with Scrum including planning and executing iteratively 
What to cover
 
  • Agile as compared to traditional project management, recommendations for when to use each, and how to best operate in blended environments
  • Hands-on activities to learn how to deliver and plan work iteratively within fixed timeboxes, and to inspect & adapt the product and process after each iteration 
  • Agile principles and Scrum values
  • Scrum roles (Scrum Master, Product Owner, Development Team)
  • Scrum ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective, and the purpose of each
  • Starting a project with Scrum: Preparing a Team Backlog and Backlog Refinement of small, vertical, consumable slices of work
  • How to forecast scope within fixed time and cost using available data within a Scrum environment
  • Stories from the trenches – success stories and advice on what not to try (and why)
  • Building a healthy Scrum team

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
 Darcy Kruse, M.S., SPC, CSP previously worked as an Agile & Lean Coach at Intel, where she launched their first eight Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) agile release trains and eventually scaled to thirty agile release trains by the end of her tenure. Since then, she has successfully started her own company, Sprint Ahead, where she and her team of instructors have led Lean, Agile, and Scaled Agile transformations, coached over 100 Scrum teams, and provided Agile training across numerous industries including companies such as IBM, Mercedes-Benz, Wells Fargo, Boeing, Google, Chevron, Genentech, State of California, and Kaiser Permanente. Darcy also teaches Agile courses for the Project Management certificate program at UC Berkeley Extension.

Darcy brings her course material to life with her real-world stories and experiences, having participated in multiple Agile roles including Scrum Team Member, Scrum Master, and Release Train Engineer in a Scaled Agile enterprise.
