For many of us, we've been told feedback should be an oreo cookie. A manager speaks to a subordinate providing a positive remark, the behavior that needs to be changed, and another positive remark. What would happen if feedback took on an omni-directional approach focused on adapting processes and behaviors to achieve project success? It would become a continuous collaborative norm that encouraged adaptation and change. This workshop will use a series of stories, games, and exercises to equip you to transform scattered teams into high performing workgroups.
Feedback, Motivation, and Difficult Conversations will help project managers enhance their communication skills so they are able to provide their team members and stakeholders effective feedback. Being able to communicate directly with the intention of motivating successful behaviors can help you evolve from micromanaging nag to a project leader. The second part of the course focuses on conversational skills that will help you refocus potentially explosive discussion moments and enable positive outcomes. The workshop is based on an interactive lecture format with individual and group exercises to practice the different skills introduced throughout the day.

Within the course of this workshop, you will learn how to deliver effective feedback, practice a variety of strategies, and handle potentially difficult conversational situations that will help your project team and stakeholders to work together to achieve successful project outcomes.
Throughout her career, Susan Schwartz led a variety of corporate and government teams through organizational change and technology transformation. Her change toolbox combines process review, crucial conversations, Emotional Intelligence assessment, and knowledge sharing strategies. Susan helps technical people who are transitioning to leadership roles improve their people management skills. Too often project managers are promoted based on their technical skill proficiency without consideration of their managerial skills. She uses Emotional Intelligence as a tool for them to hone their skills to enhance feedback communication, relationship building, and diverse team development. She recently relocated to San Francisco from the Washington, DC area where she was an active member on the PMIWDC governance board and a frequent presenter. She is the author of Creating a Greater Whole: A Project Manager‘s Guide to Becoming a Leader.
